in 1993, the UWM Mentoring Program was initially a resource for
Faculty as they worked toward tenure.
The program was expanded in 2003 to include Academic
Staff to assist them in achieving indefinite status.
The goals of the program
address survival skills for new staff and faculty, a supportive
academic and professional environment, career advancement, and balance
in all aspects of employees' lives.
volunteer from the seasoned ranks to be available for mentees on
an as-needed basis One initial face-to-face meeting is generally
followed by a series of email and telephone converstations. Once
the mentee has passed their goal (tenure, indefinite)
they are then in the position to reverse the order and become mentors.
