The Cultures and Communities Program and Institute for Service Learning promote multicultural awareness and civic engagement by sponsoring undergraduate classes, community partnership grants, faculty research, and special events. CC and ISL joined to form a single, collabortive administrative unit in 2004, creating a powerful alliance for meeting our common goals.

Dr. Jay Goes on a Lecture Tour of Indonesia

From May 16-31, 2008 CC Director Greg Jay spoke at numerous universities in Indonesia as part of the Specialist Speakers program of the U.S. State Department. His topic was "Multiculturalism in a Democratic Society." For more on the visit, follow this link.

Cultures and Communiteis Program Mission Statement

 
The Cultures and Communities (CC) Program promotes diversity and civic engagement by sponsoring
  • undergraduate courses focused on multiculturalism and community engagement, leading to a Certificate that also helps meet General Education Requirements
  • community partnership grants linking students and faculty to metropolitan Milwaukee
  • faculty research in such areas as race, ethnicity, cultural identity, sex and gender, urban education, and innovative pedagogy
  • conferences, artistic works, and special events that promote intercultural dialogue and campus-community collaborations
