Leadership Diversity: How Does Milwaukee's Nonprofit Sector Rate?

The Diversity Committee of the Helen Bader Institute commisioned a study to examine important questions regarding Milwaukee's nonprofit sector, including:

• How diverse is the sector's top-level leadership?
• Is the sector developing a diverse pool of emerging leaders?
• Are there factors that predict nonprofit leadership diversity?
• To what extent is the issue of nonprofit leadership diversity on Milwaukee's radar screen?

The Helen Bader Institute’s Diversity Committee believes that a better understanding of aspects of the nonprofit sector’s diversity, especially its leadership, is important. The overall goal of this and future follow-up studies is to determine whether local efforts to diversify Milwaukee’s nonprofit sector leadership are making a difference.
