Cultures and Communities: Learning
for the New Century
Cultures and Communities is a new set of foundation courses for
undergraduates--one of just a few of its kind in the country--emphasizing
cross-cultural literacy, interdisciplinary study and community-based
learning. It aims to prepare students to successfully take their
places in an increasingly complex and diverse workforce and world.
Cultures and Communities is developing an array of courses and projects
that pair UWM with community partners and offer students a chance
to gain critical exposure to the rich diversity of their urban environment.
Partners include America's Black Holocaust Museum, the Walnut Way
Conservation Corporation, Riverside University High School, the
Milwaukee Art Museum, Woodland Pattern Book Center and the Milwaukee
Public Museum.
