Nov. 11 - IT’s 4 U! - Institutional Data Privacy and Security
11 a.m.-noon; Union 240
Universities maintain and store a vast array of data including confidential information such as Social Security numbers and credit card numbers; health information governed by HIPAA; HR-related information; student information governed by FERPA; and research and patent-related data.
It is the responsibility of the University and staff who serve as custodians of this data to ensure that it is kept secure.
Steve Brukbacher, UWM’s IT security architect, will discuss how UWM is positioning itself to meet significant privacy and security obligations in support of business, academic and research missions. This will include:
- Developing a secure infrastructure
- Drafting and instituting policies and procedures
- Fostering an institutional understanding of the issues
The session will be moderated by Bruce Maas, CIO. It will conclude with the Lightning Round of short updates on campus IT projects and initiatives.
The event is free and open to faculty, staff and students. Faculty, staff and students are invited to attend. Register online at the
Employee Development Web site.
