Call for Nominations: UWS Dr. PB Poorman Award
To honor Dr. Poorman's legacy to the state of Wisconsin, the UW System and the LGBTQ communities, the UW System LGBTQ Inclusivity Initiative has established an annual award in her name. The award is intended to recognize a UW System faculty, staff or student who has consistently and substantially made important and significant contributions toward advocacy, research, teaching, or service for the LGBTQ communities. The award winner will be honored at a recognition ceremony in early April as part of the 4th Annual UWS LGBTQ Spring Conference in Madison.
Any UWM faculty, academic or classified staff with 50 percent time or greater, or any registered student is eligible for this award. Criteria include a nominee's outstanding achievement in:
- furthering the mission, vision, and goals of the Inclusivity Initiative for LGBTQ People; and/or
- performing at a high level resulting in distinction in one's profession for research, teaching, or service regarding LGBTQ People; and/or
- publishing, presenting, consulting, advocating, or using creative approaches to address LGBTQ issues within the classroom or in service to students.
To submit a nomination, please include the following materials:
- A letter of nomination addressing one or more of the above criteria (nominees may nominate themselves or by others).
- A one or two-page statement by the nominee on professional contributions and service regarding LGBTQ people or issues.
- Three to four letters of support from colleagues or students qualified to comment on the nominee's work. Where possible, applicable nomination criteria should be addressed.
- A brief resume, not to exceed five pages, which documents the nominee's performance.
