Student information derived from PAWS and other institutional data in UWM’s Data Warehouse is a valuable resource to the University community. Individuals seeking to access, analyze and write reports from this information have a myriad of options available to them to assist in the endeavor.

To begin, visit reporting.uwm.edu. This website has information regarding data reporting, data that’s currently available and how to gain access. Additionally, the website houses a list of campus report-writing representatives. These individuals are familiar with the report-writing process and resources. Contact your area representative if you are in need of assistance.

Four Options

When an individual is granted access and is ready to begin a query and write a report, there are four options from which to choose:

• Query Library: An online repository of previously-written reports available at no charge, the Query Library can be accessed by authorized individuals (see your area report-writing rep for more information).


• UWM Office of Assessment and Institutional Research (OAIR): The OAIR is responsible for creating and housing official reports regarding institutional research and the University’s compliance with UW-System, state and federal reporting mandates. These reports may be useful to individuals who have interest in running queries similar to those the OAIR has already done.


• Self-service reporting: Self-service reports are done by the individual at no cost.


• Custom reporting: This is for the individual working on a query that may be beyond their scope and professional help is needed. For a fee, individuals can request customized reports by emailing hyperion@support.uwm.edu. After a two-hour free consultation and needs assessment, University Relations and Communications Web Development staff provide query project management, development and report writing billed on an hourly basis.

Support

Additional assistance can be found though the Warehouse End-user Reporting Initiative Team (WERIT). WERIT meets twice a month and is active in exchanging ideas through its email list and shared collaborative space.
