On Wed., Oct. 17, from 5:30pm to 6:30pm, the Honorable Vel Phillips, special guest, joins Jasmine Alinder and Robert Smith, associate professors in History at UWM, for the Dean’s Distinguished Lecture Series featuring their presentation, “The March on Milwaukee.” A FREE community discussion follows. In 1962, City Councilwoman Vel Phillips introduced the first open housing legislation in Milwaukee. It garnered only one vote in her favor: hers. Learn what happened in Milwaukee 50 years ago, how it influenced the changes in the 1960s and 70s and its impact today. In addition, learn more about The March on Milwaukee digital collection housed at the Golda Meir library that provided documentation and photos of this period in Milwaukee's history.
