Winter is upon us: A note from your Facilities Services
The snow hasn't flown yet, but the campus plows are ready, the sidewalk salt is fully stocked, and many of your building temperature set points are operating more efficiently than ever.
Facility Services Grounds Crew is fully prepared to keep our parking lots and sidewalks clear. It is also the responsibility of our Custodial staff to keep entrances and handicap ramps clear of snow fall. If there is a snow event overnight or into the morning hours, their time is devoted to this. Areas in need of cleaning are second to keeping your walkways safe and clean. If weather threatens class cancellations, the university community can learn about cancellations by calling the S.A.F.E line, 414-229-4444, as well as tuning in to local radio and TV broadcasts. Cancellations also will be reported on the UWM homepage at uwm.edu.
The temperature expectations for offices, classrooms, and labs should be 68 degrees. This is in accordance with state of Wisconsin mandate. Through many recent digital updates to the system, within the Energy Matters program, heating and cooling is occupancy based. This has enabled Facility Services staff to monitor and control temperatures remotely, thereby expediting and reducing trouble reports and any interruptions to the space. Spaces should warm to 68 degrees within 20-30 minutes of occupancy. If temperatures are below this after such time, please call Facility Services Dispatch at 414-229-4742.
We are here for the whole campus community to keep your studies and work uninterrupted, even if the weather outside is frightful!
To a Warm & Comfortable Winter Season,
UWM Facility Services
