Michael R. Lovell has been confirmed as the eighth chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee by the UW System Board of Regents.
The announcement was made May 4 by UW System President Kevin Reilly.
“Chancellor Lovell, who has served as UWM’s Interim Chancellor since October 2010, has hit the ground running – pun intended – in this new responsibility,” said President Reilly, “and we look forward to working with him as UWM continues along the road to a promising future.
“Chancellor Lovell clearly has a deep understanding of UWM’s dual mission as a major research institution and an important access point to higher education for a diverse population of Wisconsin residents. UWM plays a vital role as an economic engine for Southeast Wisconsin, and Chancellor Lovell, an accomplished engineer, understands how to leverage that in the best interests of both the institution and the state.
“Please join me in congratulating Chancellor Lovell.”
It had been previously announced on April 14 that Lovell would be recommended as the next chancellor at the next scheduled Regents meeting. A special meeting of the Regents was held by teleconference on May 3.
