Associate Dean for Practice & Partnerships

Position Title: Associate Professor or Full Professor.

Appointment Type: 12-month, full-time, tenure track

Formal Accountability: Reports directly to the Dean of the College of Nursing


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate in nursing or related discipline
  • Master’s degree or higher in nursing
  • Previous teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level
  • Record of funded research and scholarly productivity
  • Record of professional, community and/or university service
  • Experience in program development, implementation and evaluation
  • Strong leadership and organizational abilities
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Eligible for RN licensure in Wisconsin.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the development and management of creative collaborative partnerships
  • Previous experience in academic administration desired

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Starting Date: August 24, 2009 (negotiable)

Duties: Teach courses in the College of Nursing and carry out scholarly activities and community service in accordance with the mission of the College of Nursing and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Position Description: This is a full-time position with a 50% appointment as Associate Dean for Practice & Partnerships and a 50% research and teaching faculty appointment. Responsibilities include:

  • Collaborates with other College of Nursing Associate Deans, Program Directors and Chair of the Executive Committee to integrate practice, academic and research missions of the college
  • Assumes responsibility for overall coordination of planning, administration, budget, operations and outcome standards for the following centers: the Institute for Urban Health Partnerships, including the community nursing centers, and the Center for Cultural Diversity and Health
  • Works with the Dean to cultivate, develop and maintain partnerships with other academic units on campus, other healthcare institutions, area healthcare providers, community-based organizations and corporations to facilitate the maintenance and expansion of collaborations related to practice-related research, teaching and service
  • Identifies opportunities for extramural funding streams related to practice-oriented activities and provides leadership and support of faculty and staff in preparing proposals, negotiating contracts and maximizing reimbursement streams
  • Fosters faculty development in the practice arena by developing opportunities and activities for increasing expertise
  • Fosters an environment within which incentives for faculty practices are instituted and maintained
  • Collaborates with the Dean of the College of Nursing and other health professionals in decisions that influence professional practice and policy
  • Fosters an environment that enhances faculty development, opportunities and abilities in professional practice
  • Serves as a member of the College of Nursing Coordinating Council
  • Represents faculty practice on appropriate councils and committees within the university and beyond
  • Maintains an active research program and carries primary responsibility for the advancing research and evaluation related to faculty practice and community based nursing centers
  • Provides leadership in the initiation of changes and responses to changes in the health care delivery system.
  • Monitors the external health care environment and the implications for faculty practice endeavors
  • Provides leadership in the development of future goals and directions of professional practice
  • Assumes the role and responsibilities of a tenured/tenure track faculty member
