UW-Milwaukee College of Nursing student awarded a 2009 Lamplight Scholarship

Two 2009 Lamplight Scholarships were awarded at the Lamplight Walk held on May 12, 2009 at UW- Milwaukee. The undergraduate student awardee is Katherine Boeder, a BSN student at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Katherine is in the Navy Reserve serving as a combat camera photographer. She has volunteered at Veteran’s Wheelchair Games and Veteran’s Sports Clinic particularly providing care assistance to disabled participants. Katherine values commitment to country and working with veterans particularly those with spinal cord injuries. She believes that as a soldier she can relate with shared experiences and create a bond of trust. Katherine’s faculty recommendation supports her commitment to the highest standards of care, to professional nursing, and to patient advocacy. She is identified as a self-directed learner willingly accepting challenges but also being a team player and helping her peers. Katherine anticipates enlisting in the Navy after graduation (December, 2009) and being of service to the nation’s active duty personnel.
