Global Initiatives The College of Nursing is actively engaged in promoting health care around the globe. Below are some of our current initiatives.
Center for Cultural Diversity & Global HealthThe
Center for Cultural Diversity & Global Health facilitates service, education, public policy, research and scholarship that highlight culture's role in health. We promote the development of heath care professionals who are culturally informed, ethical and competent and thus prepared to address health problems and issues that are influenced by culture and that may transcend geographic boundaries.
Visiting International ScholarsWe are pleased to host
Visiting International Scholars from around the world to work together to address global health issues.
International Council of NursesThe
International Council of Nurses is a federation of national nurses’ associations (NNAs), representing nurses in more than 128 countries.
Study AbroadWe offer unique
Study Abroad opportunities to nursing students! Our programs have taken students to Mexico, Malawi, Great Britain and Europe. South Korea is our next destination.
Global Research ProjectsWe are very proud of our faculty engaged in global
research projects. For example:
- Dr. Loren Galvao's NIH-funded research studies the relationship between HIV vulnerability and changes in economic environment and food security in rural Malawi.
- Dr. Peninnah M. Kako's research focuses on the health needs of HIV-infected women in Kenya.
- Dr. Lucy Mkandawire-Valhmu studies the risk of HIV among women in Malawi, especially those affected by domestic violence.
