Global Initiatives

 

The College of Nursing is actively engaged in promoting health care around the globe. Below are some of our current initiatives.

Center for Global Health EquityThe Center for Global Healthy Equity facilitates service, education, public policy, research and scholarship that highlight culture's role in health. We promote the development of heath care professionals who are culturally informed, ethical and competent and thus prepared to address health problems and issues that are influenced by culture and that may transcend geographic boundaries.

Visiting International ScholarsWe are pleased to host Visiting International Scholars from around the world to work together to address global health issues.

International Council of NursesThe International Council of Nurses is a federation of national nurses’ associations (NNAs), representing nurses in more than 128 countries.

Study AbroadWe offer unique Study Abroad opportunities to nursing students! Our programs have taken students to Mexico, Malawi, Great Britain and Europe.

Global Research Projects
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee faculty and students are engaged in global health research projects primarily in Africa. For example:
    SAGE4Health
    The SAGE4Health Project, originally known as Tiphunzitsane or "working together" in the Chichewa language, was recently renamed to reflect key goals: Savings, Agriculture, Governance and Empowerment.

The project was launched in the Kasungu District in rural Malawi through a workshop and field visits that brought together project partners and representatives from The University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, The Medical College of Wisconsin, CARE USA, CARE Malawi, CARE Austria, The European Union, Malawi Ministry of Health, and the International Crops Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics.  The principal investigator is
