House of Peace Community Nursing Center
Located at the House of Peace Community Center, a faith-based agency, this community nursing center emphasizes health promotion and disease prevention through health education and screening programs. A range of educational programs for community residents is provided on such topics as nutrition, exercise, and general health promotion activities. Particular emphasis has been placed on the provision of both prevention and support services for families dealing with cancer. Primary care also is provided, including such services as employment physical exams and women’s health exams.
Mission StatementThe House of Peace Community Nursing Center’s Mission and Commitment is:
- to understand and provide for the health and education services that our clients/neighborhood ask for or require; to this end, we advocate for access to quality healthcare services for each person;
- to provide focused wellness programming that encompasses community-based nursing practice; and targets prevention, early detection, and/or management of the community’s potential/existing health risk states;
- to encourage and support the educational growth and development of our UWM nursing students, and to provide for academic research initiatives that are aimed at improving local and regional health policy, where possible;
- to promote collaborative partnerships with the House of Peace Community Center as well as other community health care agencies.
To improve health outcomes and help to reduce health care disparities for the Walnut Park community individuals and families; while maintaining the identity and assisting in preserving this culturally rich and diverse neighborhood.
