Mrs. Kelber joined the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) College of Nursing as biostatistician and information specialists in the Harriet Werley Center for Nursing Research and Evaluation (WCNRE) over 20 years ago. She has served as biostatistician on several federally funded and non-for-profit organizations research programs/projects.

As a biostatistician, Mrs. Kelber collaborates with several faculty and staff on diverse projects. Her areas of research and expertise span quantitative methodological approaches to health and social sciences research. Mrs. Kelber has collaborated on several research projects including: chronic disease research, cancer, heart disease, aging/gerontology, HIV/AIDS, obesity, health systems research and quality of life issues, social stigma and health, bereavement, women’s health etc.

Within the UWM College of Nursing, Mrs. Kelber also creates the course and teaching evaluation forms used each semester and analyze data obtained from these evaluations.

Teaching

Mrs. Kelber assists graduate students with methodological issues and data analysis related to projects and dissertation research. Mrs. Kelber serves periodically as statistics instructor in the College of Nursing. She also serves as guest lecturer to undergraduate and graduate courses in nursing research.

A Grief Intervention Study for Spouses and Adult Children of Persons with End Stage Alzheimer's Disease.
To test the feasibility of an individualized intervention to reduce the level of grief (Heart-felt sadness and longing, worry and isolation, and/or personal sacrifice burden) and increase the quality of life in spouses and adult children caregivers of persons with late stage Alzheimer’s disease.

Consultation and Evaluation Services for the Jewish Home and Care Center: Phase II
The purposes of this project are to: (1)move from a hierarchical to a flatter democratic organizational structure. This may be facilitated by moving to a neighborhood and household structure with rotation of staff possible between "sister" households; (2) develop and maintain educational and procedural processes that support empowerment and effective leadership by middle managers; (3) empower frontline staff through organizational structure changes, certificate, educational and other incentive programs; and (4) institute procedural changes on four households for achieving person-centered care of residents with dementia.

Individual and Community Environment Effects on HIV Stigma.
The outcome of the first year of RGI support will be the completion of the preliminary study to develop and test a multidimensional model of HIV stigma in a sample of 60 HIV-infected African American men in Milwaukee.

Grief and Personal Growth in Spouses and Children of People with Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias
This project is designed to first understand the grief experience of family members of persons with ADRD. Then, based on this information, a training module with appropriate intervention strategies will be developed and shared with professional and paraprofessional health care providers in cooperation with the UWM Center on Age and Community, Southeastern Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Association, and the Milwaukee Aging Consortium.
