Education
PhD, Marquette University, Milwaukee (Educational Administration & Curriculum)
MSN, Marquette University, Milwaukee
BSN, Alverno College, Milwaukee
Currently, Dr. Lang is leading the Knowledge-based Nursing Initiative, a partnership between Aurora Health Care, the Cerner Corporation and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The "Knowledge-Based Nursing" Initiative (KBNI) is a leading edge partnership among Aurora Health Care, Cerner Corporation, and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee College of Nursing (ACW) to accelerate and expand the use of knowledge and evidence in nursing practice through intelligent technology. Variation in the quality of nursing care across countries, clinical settings, and populations is widely recognized. KBNI identifies, defines, facilitates and improves nurses' direct contributions to patient outcomes through the enhanced use of evidence based clinical care using intelligent clinical information systems.
She is a Senior Research fellow with the Annenberg Center for Public Policy, a Senior Fellow in the Leonard Davis Institute for Health Economics and the Center for Health Outcomes and Policy Research at the University of Pennsylvania. She is Professor and Dean Emeritus at the University of Pennsylvania and the former Dean at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Dr. Lang received her BSN from Alverno College, Milwaukee and her MSN and PhD from Marquette University and a MS (Hon) from the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Lang is a member of the Boards of the National Quality Forum (NQF) and the Commission on Graduates from Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS). She is a member of the Advisory Group for the NQF Executive Institute. She currently serves on the Joint Commission (JC) Evaluation Committee for the Codman awards and chairs the NQF/ JC selection committee for the Eisenberg Awards. Dr. Lang is a Fellow of the Institute of Medicine , the American Academy of Nursing, the College of Physicians of Philadelphia, an honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Nursing in London and an Honorary Member of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. She holds honorary degrees from the State University of New York and Marquette University.

Current Research
Aurora/Cerner/UWM Partnership Agreement for Development of Innovative Health Care Information [ACW]
Lundeen, Sally & Lang, Norma M.
07/01/05-06/30/08
Aurora Healthcare, Inc & Cerner Corporation
The purposes of the ACW project are to (1) develop/test/refine an accelerated technology-based process of translating scientific evidence into nursing care guidelines that are readily available to practitioners, (2) use the process to develop a repository of evidence & care guidelines for several hundred nursing concerns, and (3) to increase nurses' actual use of evidence-based care recommendations.

$598,549 Total Award
The goal of this research is to extend the efforts of the Knowledge-Based Nursing Initiative (KBNI) at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee by building a knowledge retrieval and storage system that provides clinical evidence in a format usable by nurses through linking the language of research to the language of nursing practice.
