Recent Funded Research

Dr. Morgan is Center Scientist in the College of Nursing Self-Management Science Center as well as a Center Scientist with the Center for Urban Population Health Center Scientist Development Program. Through these two grants she is performing feasibility and pilot testing on her innovative intervention the Caregiver Self-Management of Unmet Needs Intervention (C-SUM). The intervention is designed to help family caregivers of community dwelling elders living with dementia recognize and manage pain and unmet needs. These two studies are being done in partnership with Community Care for the Elderly and the Family Care Program, community programs that serve diverse low-income elders.

Leadership/Service

May 2009- Dr. Morgan was nominated by Mayor Barrett, and confirmed by the Common Council's Public Safety Committee, to be a member of the Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission. 

Dr. Morgan provides leadership/service in a number of areas on and off campus. At the University she serves on the Institutional Review Board and is a member of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Issues Advisory Committee. She recently completed service on the Women Studies Steering Council and as Coordinator of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Studies Certificate Program. Within the College she has served as Chair of the Academic Staff Committee and as a member of the Academic Program Committee. She currently serves as President of Eta Nu Chapter of the Sigma Theta Tau International, the Nursing Honor Society. She is a frequent guest lecturer within the college and across campus on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender health issues. She recently completed service in the community as a member of the Board of Directors of Cream City Foundation and is an Academic Partner of Diverse and Resilient. In addition she serves as Senior Warden, the highest lay leader for St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.

Practice

Dr. Morgan focused her master’s work on women’s health and midwifery. She has practiced as an RN in the areas of psychiatric and gynecological nursing. She worked as an advanced practice nurse at Silver Spring Community Nursing Center providing primary care services to a diverse group of low-income adults. She has worked with nursing students in the clinical setting in the hospital setting in postpartum care, in the long-term care setting in health assessment and in the community setting in foundational nursing practice.
