Dr. Seal received her Doctoral degree in nursing from Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing, Case Western Reserve University. Her dissertation focused on cardiovascular risk factors in school-age twins. Dr. Seal was one of only 18 award recipients selected from the United States to obtain the training grant in Molecular Genetics in Research, Health, and Society at the NIHcampus funded by NIH, NINR Summer Genetics Institute. Dr. Seal was also a recipient of the T32 NIH, NINR Post-Doctoral Fellowship for Behavioral Research in Nursing, Indiana University School of Nursing (Grant #T32NR7066). In this fellowship, Dr. Seal conducted research on genetic and environmental interactions on the development of obesity in American Indian Infants.

Teaching
Dr. Seal has taught undergraduate and graduate programs in nursing. She facilitated the development of courses and coursework that aim to enhance student’s ability to apply theories, increase student’s knowledge in health promotion and maintenance, and advance the care of culturally, diverse and underserved populations. She served as a public relation committee while she was a faculty member at Mahidol University in Thailand. She supported international education and research.
