Teaching

Dr. Seal has taught undergraduate and graduate programs in nursing.  She facilitated the development of courses and coursework that aim to enhance student’s ability to apply theories, increase student’s knowledge in health promotion and maintenance, and advance the care of culturally, diverse and underserved populations.  She served as a public relation committee while she was a faculty member at Mahidol University in Thailand.  She supported international education and research.

Dr. Seal was also a recipient of a number of organizations and foundations research and program grants such as the Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Society, the Dakota Medical Foundation, and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation Donor-Advised Fund Grant Awards.  Dr. Seal has served as principle investigator in several funded projects focused on health promotion and childhood obesity prevention. She was also a director and principle investigator of a funded Summer Wellness Camp Program to improving nutritional knowledge and physical activity in rural school-age children.

Dr. Seal has served as a manuscript reviewer for numerous nursing and interdisciplinary journals including Health Education Research, WHO Research Bulletin, Scientific Journal International, and Sentinel Reader for Evidence-Based Nursing for BMJ Publishing and McMaster University Health Information Research Unit.  She has also participated as a grant reviewer for numerous organizations including the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the Sigma Theta Tau International Eta Upsilon Chapter, and the Clinical & Translational Science Institute, Medical College of Wisconsin. 

Dr. Seal is actively involved in several organizations, currently serving on the Chair of the Ethnicity and Health Research Section, Midwest Nursing Research Society. She is also a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Society, National League for Nursing, Genetic Alliance, and the Children's Environmental Health Sciences Core Center.  Dr. Sealis a past Chair of the Research Committee Sigma Theta Tau International Eta Upsilon Chapter, a member of the Advisory Group for the Health Advisory Committee, Tri-Valley Head Start Opportunity Council, Inc.  She has received several honors and awards including the Faculty Research Award from Sigma Theta Tau International Eta Upsilon Society, and Public Scholar Award from the Center for Community Engagement.
