Following is a comprehensive listing of the existing scholarships and operating funds of the UWM College of Nursing. Student Scholarships

Harriet H. Werley Doctoral Student Fellowship and Research Fund (4471.00)Primary purpose is to provide support to doctoral nursing students conducting research in nursing practice, including scientific study of practice documentation, the Nursing Minimum Data Set, and nursing informatics; second purpose is to provide student support for an annual Doctoral Student Fellowship, unrestricted by interest, but awarded to a student who is committed to a career involving nursing research.

Ontscherenki Scholarship Fund (4472.00)To provide two scholarships annually to full-time undergraduate nursing students with a minimum 2.75 GPA and demonstrated financial need.

Maria T. McFarland Memorial Scholarship Fund (4474.00)To provide scholarships to academically talented undergraduate (junior or senior) or graduate students in the CON with a minimum 3.5 GPA.

Milton and Joan Morris Scholarship Fund in Memory of Samuel Morris (4475.00)To provide scholarships to doctoral, master’s and undergraduate nursing students, with preference given to students who are interested in chronic health problems or gerontological nursing and those with financial need.

Charlotte S. Gellerman Memorial Scholarship Fund (4477.00)To provide scholarships for undergraduate nursing students with academic merit, financial need or other obstacles to obtaining higher education, with a preference for those who are members of a racial or ethnic minority group underrepresented in higher education within the UW System.

Nurse Physiologist Scholarship (4478.00)To increase the number of nurses with additional preparation in physiology by providing scholarships to graduate nursing students; eligible recipients must be enrolled in a physiology program of study approved and monitored by the Dean that consists of selected elective physiology courses, one of which may be taken for independent study.

Nursing Scholarship and Undergraduate Travel Fund (6683.00)To provide private support for financial aid and travel stipends to nursing students.

Wisconsin Rural Opportunities Foundation Scholarship (6851.00)To provide scholarships to undergraduate students enrolled in the UWM College of Nursing with residence or former residence in a rural area of Wisconsin, academic merit, financial need, and a preference for members or families operating a family farm, or applicants with substantial farm related experience.

UWM Nursing Legacy Fund (7800.00)To provide scholarships to nursing students with academic merit; it is further anticipated that earnings from this fund may be used to fund or enhance the value of other scholarships for nursing students.

Nursing Graduate Student Travel Fund (8700.00)To provide travel stipends for graduate nursing students.

Nursing Fund for Excellence in Pharmacology (8704.00)To enhance the educational opportunities for students, with emphasis on Advanced Nurse Practitioner students, in the multi-disciplinary aspects of Pharmacology.

Eileen Sheil Emergency Nursing Student Fund (8711.00)To provide emergency gifts directly to students enrolled in the UWM College of Nursing who demonstrate emergency financial need, with a preference for members of racial or ethnic minority groups underrepresented in higher education within the UW System.

 

Operational Support

General Fund (3326.00) and Alumni Fund (3326.05)To provide private support for general operating expenses including, but not limited to, supplies, equipment, travel, entertainment and financial aid to students.

Nursing Leadership Fund (3827.00)To support special activities of the CON and to serve as the holding area for miscellaneous funds.

Institute for Urban Health Partnerships (3828.00)

To support the activities of the Institute for Urban Health Partnerships (House of Peace Community Nursing Center, Silver Spring Community Nursing Center, Riverwest Pierce Community Nursing Center).

American Cancer Society Professorship in Nursing (3829.00)To advance the mission of the American Cancer Society through professional and public education, and to promote prevention, early detection and treatment of cancer and research in cancer; the fund will support the activities of the ACS Professor including but not limited to salary, supplies, equipment, travel, entertainment and student support.

Continuing Education (3830.00)To provide support to our “Year 2003, Update in Pharmacology” program. This program compares various drug therapies in the treatment of diseases and disorders. Funds will be used to cover miscellaneous expenses in this program.

Aurora Informatics Professor (3831.00)To support a distinguished research professor in the area of clinical informatics.

Children’s Joint Research Chair (3832.00)Funding for the Joint Research Chair position between Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and the UWM College of Nursing.

Employee Morale, Recruitment and Retention Fund (3834.00)To elevate morale, and increase recruitment and retention within the College of Nursing by providing retirement or appreciation receptions, luncheons, and miscellaneous social gathering for the CON faculty and staff, and members of the community who have provided services to the College of Nursing. This account will be funded by donations from the Dean, faculty and staff, and outside donors who are aware of this fund’s purpose.

UW-Parkside NLRC Fund (3835.00)To support the needs of the UW-Parkside Nurse Learning Resource Center.

UWM NLRC Fund (3836.00)To support the needs of the UWM Nurse Learning Resource Center.

Nancy A. Wright Memorial Fund (4473.00)

To provide support for Nursing Center Development, maintenance and equipment for the Nancy Wright Playroom, and Nursing Center scholarships and staff development awards.

Barbara Friedbacher Endowed Fund (4476.00)To support the Silver Spring Community Nursing Center, with a priority on providing health programs for disadvantaged women and children.

K. Elise Fitzpatrick Maternity Nursing Fund (4479.00)To support initiatives, exclusive of the normal operating budget, which explore concepts in maternity care for the 21st Century and beyond and which may include but are not limited to lectures, special projects, scholarships, or supplies and materials.

Walter Schroeder Chair in Nursing Research (5562.00)To support said Chair, whose responsibilities include conducting clinical nursing research, stimulating others to do clinical nursing research, consulting on research matters, disseminating the findings, and integration of such research endeavors into the educational programs of the UWM College of Nursing and the clinical programs of St. Luke’s Hospital.

Claire M. Gauthier Memorial Fund (5851.00)An unrestricted fund, with a preference for nursing scholarships, programs that benefit nursing students, or the improvement of nursing school facilities.

Harriet H. Werley Center for Nursing Research and Evaluation Fund (8706.00)

To support the WCNRE, the goal of which is to develop and actualize the research potential of the College of Nursing faculty and the nursing community it serves. The WCNRE's objectives are to 1) support and facilitate application for funding of research projects; 2) promote research collaboration within the College, University, and public/private sectors; 3) support and facilitate continuing development of faculty expertise and student research; and 4) support ongoing evaluation activities within the College of Nursing. Some services are available to College of Nursing graduate students, and fee-based assistance is available to employees of community and professional agencies.

Nursing Informatics Fund (8709.00)

To support the research of Dr. Norma Lang and/or any person named by the Dean in the area of Nursing Informatics.

TAPPS: Teens and Parents Pursuing Success (8710.00)In partnership with the Silver Spring Neighborhood Center and the Greater Milwaukee Foundation.

Hinsvark Historical Gallery (8832.00)To support the Center for Nursing History activities (including expenditures for books, activities, etc. for the Hinsvark Historical Gallery) and to support Hinsvark scholarships, fellowships or research awards.

House of Peace Nursing Center (8882.00)To provide general operating support for the UWM College of Nursing House of Peace Nursing Center including, but not limited to, salaries, supplies, equipment, travel, and entertainment.

Silver Spring Nursing Center (8888.00)To support the activities of the Silver Spring Nursing Center.
