The UWM College of Nursing is the largest nursing program in Wisconsin and is ranked by US News & World report in the top 10% of the America’s Best Nursing Programs. I want to assure you that the College of Nursing is an open and dynamic environment where we seek to engage and support our students academically and personally... We are very proud of our nearly 6000 nursing alumnae who are providing leadership in health care in Wisconsin and across the globe.
In addition to being dean of the College of Nursing, I am the mother of four young adults. Since my kids chose schools in locations stretching from Massachusetts to Colorado and in between, I have experienced the same curiosity about college life in those campuses as you may be feeling now. Some degree of anxiety is common to most parents of college students and, at least in my case, this did not lessen with each subsequent launch.
Each year we welcome many Pre-nursing students to the College. Admission to the clinical major occurs in the junior year after completion of a rigorous science based curriculum. Each year we have many more applicants to the nursing major than we can accommodate with our current resources. Since acceptance into the nursing major is so competitive, we strongly encourage Pre-nursing students to take advantage of the resources available to them at the campus level as well as in the College.
The Academic Enrichment Center is available to provide supplemental instruction and tutoring for students and our Advising staff is available to discuss academic schedules and answer questions. We actively seek applications for a number of Scholarships that are available to College of Nursing students. Many other links are listed to the right that will assist you in knowing the College and the UWM campus better. I hope you find them helpful as you select a nursing program and support your student on the exciting journey to become a professional nurse.
