The UWM College of Nursing BS to PhD program prepares doctoral students as scientists who generate knowledge to advance nursing. They are skilled researchers who, using their grounding in the discipline of nursing, conduct inquiry to further clinical, policy, education, and healthcare delivery needs in a variety of settings. Graduates are ready for careers in education, research, practice, and to assume leadership positions. Students work closely with expert faculty, who investigate clinically relevant phenomena using a variety of research methods.
The BS to PhD Program is similar to our traditional on-campus PhD, and taught predominately in a classroom setting. It combines four foundational courses from our Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program with the traditional on-campus PhD program. New candidates to the program begin in the Spring semester, completing the DNP courses over the Spring and Summer before launching into the doctoral program.
