"Can Microfinance and Sustainable Agriculture Improve HIV, Reproductive Health and Nutritional Outcomes in Rural Malawi? Examining Complex Questions in a Complex Setting"
This presentation will highlight the global AIDS epidemic, recent developments at the XIX International AIDS Conference held in July 2012, and the ongoing Malawi Tiphunzitsane Project. The project is a 5-year NIH-funded study that evaluates the impact of a CARE-Malawi economical and sustainable agriculture intervention on HIV, reproductive health, nutritional and other health outcomes.
Speaker: Loren W. Galvao, M.D., M.P.H.
Dr. Galvao is a physician with expertise in global & public health programs and research, focusing on HIV prevention, maternal & reproductive health; she has experience in 20 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and North America. She is currently a Global Health Senior Scientist at the UWM College of Nursing, Center for Global Health Equity, and a Honorary Fellow, Population Health, Department of Population Health Sci-ences, University of Wisconsin (Madison) School of Medicine & Public Health.
