A nurse educator since 1972, Dr. Cook joined the faculty of UWM in January 2009. She has taught in nursing programs in Illinois and Milwaukee, with an emphasis on medical-surgical nursing, leadership, family issues, foundations of nursing, and nursing research. At UWM Dr. Cook has served as Level 3B Coordinator in the undergraduate program and as Program Director for the Master of Nursing program. She has participated actively on the board of directors of the Wisconsin Center for Nursing, Eta Nu Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, and the Wisconsin League for Nursing. Dr. Cook is also a member of the American Nurses Association, the Wisconsin Nurses Association, the National League for Nursing, and The Clinical Nurse Leaders Association. In 2011 Dr. Cook was elected to the NLN Nursing Education Advisory council, and in 2012 she was appointed by the president of NLN to serve on the National League for Nursing Constituent League Leadership Committee. Dr. Cook is interested in qualitative research methodologies, particularly as applied to the study of adult children of alcoholic parents. Her other interests extend to travel, art, reading, and making jewelry.
