Dear Parents of UWM Nursing and Pre-Nursing Students,
The UWM College of Nursing is the largest nursing program in Wisconsin and is consistently ranked in the top 6% of the U.S. News & World Report. I want to assure you that the College of Nursing is an open and dynamic environment where we seek to engage and support our students academically and personally. We are very proud of our 7,000+ nursing alumnae who are providing leadership in health care in Wisconsin and across the globe.
Each year we welcome many Pre-nursing students to the College. Admission to the clinical major occurs in the junior year after completion of a rigorous science-based curriculum. Each year we have many more applicants to the nursing major than we can accommodate with our current resources. Since acceptance into the nursing major is so competitive, we strongly encourage Pre-nursing students to take advantage of the resources available to them at the campus level as well as in the College.
I strongly encourage you to check out the links under our Academics heading. Under Academic Resources, you will not only find information on the College of Nursing Academic Enrichment Center (available to provide supplemental instruction and tutoring), but information on the various UWM resources, such as the Student Success Center, dedicated to creating opportunities for all first-year, transfer and returning adult students and families to successfully transition into an inclusive and vibrant community. There are many links on this page as well.
You will find more important resources under the Panther Families Program site. Panther Families Program is your link to the UWM campus and provides resources to help you support your student and ensure their success at UWM.
I hope you find all of this information helpful as you select a nursing program and support your student on the exciting journey to become a professional nurse.
