Pre-Nursing Course Work
If eligible, you will be admitted to UWM as a pre-nursing student. This means that you will take liberal arts courses in humanities, social sciences and natural sciences along with some nursing courses as you work to become eligible to apply for the clinical part of the program. It takes an average of two years to complete this course work.
To prepare for admission to the Nursing Major, you need to complete course requirements* with a "C" or better, have at least a 2.50 GPA in the required science courses and meet the 2.75 minimum GPA overall as calculated on pertinent courses.
Course requirements* for pre-nursing students:
- Two semesters of Anatomy and Physiology with labs(8 credits)
- Two semesters of Chemistry (General and Biochem with labs) (8 credits)
- Microbiology with lab (4 credits)
- Clinical Nutrition (2 credits)
- Physics (3 credits)
- English Composition (2nd level) (3 credits)
- Sociology (3 credits)
- Introduction to Psychology (3 credits)
- Human Growth and Development (4 credits)
- Social Science elective (3 credits)
- Cultural Diversity in Healthcare (3 credits)
- Perspectives in Healthcare Systems (3 credits)
- Nursing Research (3 credits)
Total of 48 prerequisite credits
