The Clery Act
The Clery Act of 1998 and the Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act of 2000 require that UWM report and publish crime statistics along with policies and procedures to be followed in the case of sex offenses and other crimes.
How This Information is Used
Each year, the Office of Student Life, together with the UWM Police Department, uses existing records to compile its crime statistics and to reports these statistics, along with security and sex offense related policies and procedures, to the Federal government. In addition, federal law requires that UWM provide information about alcohol and drug abuse and the effects of drugs and alcohol.

This information has been and will continue to be published each semester in the Schedule of Classes in the section entitled "Student Alert" and is available on this page.

How Crime Statistics are Compiled at UWM

Statistics are compiled by the Office of the Dean of Students from data and incident reports collected by various UW-Milwaukee Departments, including the UWM Police, University Housing, the Women’s Resource Center, Norris Health Center and the Office of the Dean of Students. Crime statistics are also collected annually from the City of Milwaukee Police Department for inclusion into the UWM report.

The Dean of Students office has designed a form for the various offices to use to collect the information and help keep track of sexual assault incidents by date, so that confidentiality can be maintained.
