Nigel Rothfels, Director
Nigel attended college at the University of Utah, received his Ph.D. in History from Harvard University, and has held post-doctoral research fellowships from Princeton University, the Australian National University, and the National Endowment for the Humanities. He is the author of Savages and Beasts: The Birth of the Modern Zoo (2002) and the editor of a cross-disciplinary collection of essays, Representing Animals (2002). He has been at UWM since 1994 and has been the Director of the Edison Initiative, which includes UROP, since 2000. email: rothfels@uwm.edu
Kyla Moore, Coordinator
Kyla Moore is an Instructional Specialist for the UROP Program and a Lecturer in the English Department at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She received her Master's degree in English from the University of Notre Dame and undergraduate degrees in English and Psychology from Hope College in Holland, MI. Her primary field of research is the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, and she has been named a Center Scholar at UWM by the Center for Instructional and Professional Development for the '06-'07 and '07-'08 academic years. She is currently working on researching student learning within a paired-course learning community environment. email: kylam@uwm.edu
Dana Hirn, UROP Fellow
Dana Hirn is a junior in her third year at UW-Milwaukee. She became involved with UROP as a sophomore working with Dr. Jonathan Kanter in the Psychotherapy Process and Outcomes Research Laboratory, specializing in depression. Over the summer, she will be doing research through an internship with the Department of Probation and Parole in Brown and Door County. After completing of her undergraduate degree in psychology, Dana plans to enter a Ph.D. graduate school program and pursue a career in research.
Laura Turner, UROP Fellow
Laura Turner is a recent UWM graduate receiving her BA in psychology. Her specific interests include psychotherapy and behavioral approaches to alleviating depression symptoms. Laura became involved in UROP in 2004 when she began an apprenticeship with Dr. Anthony Greene in the psychology department. Here she had first hand experience with the ins and outs of cognitive neuroscience. An increased curiosity subsequently led her to explore the research of Dr. Jonathan Kanter and Dr. Nicole Roberts, also professors in the psychology department. Laura is currently researching with Dr. Jonathan Kanter before she attends graduate school in clinical psychology.
