The Global Twenty-Four Hour Economy

In view of the rise of high-speed data communication links, allowing call-center agents based in India to work online and in real time for corporations based in the United States, this project seeks to identify new vulnerabilities and crisis tendencies inherent in such technologically-induced inter-dependence of labor markets.Research methods consist of, first, an ethnographic study of call centers in India, including long interviewsl; second, an examination of the existing and changing legal protections pertinent to such labor in both India and the United States.

Tasks and responsibilities:

1. Interview transcription

2. Researching changes in labor laws in the last 5 years.

3. Using geographic information systems for dataset preparation (if possible)

4. Research and data collection on night work.
