Hybrid Nanomaterials for Gas Sensors

The objective of this project is to synthesize various (SnO2, Ag) nanoparticles using a mini-arc plasma reactor and to assemble the aerosol nanoparticles onto carbon nanotubes (CNTs) for sensor fabrication.

Tasks and responsibilities:

Both undergraduate students are expected to first synthesize nanocrystals using the mini-arc plasma system in my lab and then assemble the product nanocrystals onto CNTs dispersed on a microfabricated electrode for miniaturized gas sensor development. The sensor performance will be characterized. The effects of catalysis and sensing temperature on the sensor performance will be investigated.
