Understanding the accessibility needs of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community

Continuing the R2D2 Center's ongoing research concerning people with disabilities and the accessibility of the environment through universal design, this opportunity will introduce this student to the beginning stages of research, defining the problems and completing background research on the subject of Universal Design of buildings to allow for accessibility for the Deaf and hard of hearing Community.

Tasks and responsibilities:

The student will be responsible for recruiting and scheduling participants for focus groups. They will need to do a literature search and work with their research subjects to determine specific needs of this community for accessibility and safety. They will need to develop survey questions to collect data. The student will become familiar with with other aspects of R2D2 research regarding the integration of universal design, individual accommodations and assistive technology to meet the needs of people with disabilities.
