Identifying allostatic load in African American childbearing women in an electronic health system
Using the stepwise approach proposed for this study will result in an evidence-based construct for allostatic load. The results will inform the development of a method for determining a valid allostatic load score based on electronic health record data. This method for measuring allostatic load will be used in a subsequent study to predict health outcomes over time for African American girls and women of childbearing age further supporting a life-course perspective. This study will result in a manuscript describing the construct of allostatic load identified through the qualitative analysis of the voices of African American women with the data elements in an electronic health information system. The results of this study will inform a subsequent proposal for federal funding.
