Weather Forecasting - Applied Research and Operations

A program called Innovative Weather (see www.innovativeweather.com) exists on campus that makes real-time weather forecasts for a set of southeastern Wisconsin clients (including entities like We Energies, MMSD and Lake Express Ferry). We also conduct applied research designed to improve forecast techniques or services for a specific client. The opportunity exists for students, depending on their level of training and experience, to assist in either of these areas.

Tasks and responsibilities:

Depending on student background, responsibilities might include, after training in the program, assisting in producing client-specific forecasts or in the conduct of applied research designed to improve weather forecast techniques or client services.
