League of Experienced Family Caregivers

The League of Experienced Family Caregivers (LEFC) is a first step process toward creating an evidence-based protocol for care managers (those who work with family caregivers and their older adult family member) to guide and support family caregivers as they cope with the challenges of caregiving for elderly persons, especially those with dementia. The objectives for the first year are to 1) create a web-based registry of family caregivers who are willing to share their experiences by participating in a series of questionnaire surveys, 2) establish a working partnership with state and community organizations, and through these partnerships design intervention protocols that are evidence based and informed by practice experience, 3) develop and test tools for use by care managers and family caregivers, and 4) develop one or more proposals for future federal and foundation funding to implement and test the merits of an intervention protocol.

Tasks and responsibilities:

Student tasks and responsibilities will include but are not limited to; assisting in managing caregiver registry, raw data organization and entry, contacting potential registrants (via phone, mail, email), assisting with the organization and conducting community focus groups, literature reviews-to include library research and database entry, and develop a filing system for materials related to project.
