Just announced - PantherFile integration with PantherLink e-mail system
Xythos, developer of UWM’s PantherFile online storage and file sharing system, just announced the integration of their software to Zimbra’s e-mail system, which is the software that will power the new UWM e-mail system, PantherLink. According to the announcement, “The new Zimlet will provide users with advanced document collaboration features directly from within the Zimbra applications environment... With Xythos, Zimbra users will be able to enjoy complete access to their documents and e-mail regardless of where they are located or what computer they are using.“ The system will allow central electronic storage of all messages and files and availability of files from any Internet connection.
Training sessions set for Nov. 9
The first “Train the Trainer“ session will be held on Fri., Nov. 9. Since final meeting logistics are still being finalized as of this Update, the complete meeting logistics will be announced no later than Fri., Nov. 2.
The “Train the Trainer“ session is for staff, such as help desk, desktop support and others, who will be training individuals in the use of PantherLink. The training will be hands-on and participants will be able to use the system during the training session.
Topics to be covered include:
- Using the Web client
- Managing e-mail/calendar
- Using the search function
There will also be time for Q&A. This session will be conducted by Zimbra staff. Although the session will be recorded, those who will be providing departmental training on the PantherLink system are encouraged to take advantage of the “live“ training.
Training for the entire campus community will be provided in a variety of ways, such as short courses and online. It is anticipated that campus training sessions will begin approximately 30-45 days before the campuswide launch of PantherLink. Ongoing training will also be available after the launch.
If you are interested in participating in the upcoming “Train the Trainer“ session, please contact Dennis Kohlmeier, UITS project manager, at kohlmeie@uwm.edu no later Thursday morning, Nov. 1.
E-mail stored on the servers at all time high
E-mail stored on the servers is now over 4 terabytes, an all-time high, according to UWM E-mail Administrator Steve Premeau. The majority of mail is in Inbox and Sent mail folders. In addition to threatening the ongoing functionality of PantherMail, this high volume will impact the migration of e-mail accounts to the new PantherLink system. Faculty and staff are encouraged to manage their e-mail by:
- Deleting unnecessary mail in the Inbox and sent folders
- Emptying trash folders
- Archiving e-mail off the e-mail servers
Free short courses are available. There are also some Online resources.
