Current Friday Night Show

Current show: Discoveries of New Worlds
Dates and time: 7-7:55 pm, November 6 to December 11, 2009
Location: Manfred Olson Planetarium in the Physics building
(see map).

Admission price: $2

Without any more planets to discover in our own Solar System, recent astronomical research has delved into finding planets orbiting other stars, called exoplanets. Amazingly, over 350 of these objects have been found so far, many of which resemble hot super-sized Jupiters. With the advent of better technology we are finding more and more Earth-like planets. Learn about how we are able to find these other worlds and what they are like! (18-20 min)

As always, a portion of the show is devoted to viewing the current night sky (12-14 min). After the stargazing in our renovated theater, there is an interactive discussion of what we see due to the Earth's rotation (8-12 min) followed by a question period (5-10 min).

If you are interested in this topic but cannot join us for a Friday Night Show, please feel free to request this topic for a private show. See private groups.
