Girl Scouts

Marvel at the beauty of the night sky and learn about astronomy at the newly renovated Manfred Olson Planetarium at UWM.  We offer public programs on Friday evenings and private programs specifically designed for the Space Explorer Try-it and the Sky Search Badge. Astronomer Jean Creighton is keen to answer your questions and share her excitement about space; she can also design a program especially for your group.

All shows have a minimum and maximum troop level:
Minimum is 5 girls, 2 adults.
Maximum is 40 girls, 20 adults.

Dazzling Stars

WHO: Brownies

Be dazzled by a guided tour of the night sky at our planetarium theater. Learn how we map the sky.  After you experience beautiful stars and their myths, make and display your own constellations. Talk about space travel. Jean Creighton, an astronomer, loves answering questions. Earn Space Explorer Try-it (it is not clear whether we will be able to provide the try-it: ask when you register).

Stars Stand Out

WHO: Juniors

Be amazed by the stars in our planetarium theater: learn how to find constellations and navigate with them. In addition to stars and their myths, you investigate planets, look closely at the Moon, and find out more about interesting objects in the sky. Bring your questions! Earn Sky Search Badge (it is not clear whether we will be able to provide this recognition: ask when you register).

Space Girls

WHO: Cadettes, Seniors, Ambassadors

Look at the beautiful starry sky at our planetarium theater and learn to identify at least ten constellations.  Find out how stars live and die and how we know.  Learn about our current space missions. Astronomer Jean Creighton is always delighted to answer questions.

How to Register

Contact Jean Creighton (414) 229-4961or stargaze@uwm.edu to register your troop for a particular date (or to request a different date).  Ten business days before the program, send a check for the full amount payable to UWM with a note containing your name, the date and program you booked, your troop number and town/city with zip code, phone number(s) you can be reached on the day of your visit, email address, and the number of girls and adults.
