Marvel at the beauty of the night sky at the UWM Manfred Olson Planetarium! Your group may attend public programs on Friday evenings, or arrange for one of our three specially designed age-appropriate programs, described below. Astronomer Jean Creighton is keen to answer your questions and share her excitement about space.

Size of Girl Scout groups:
Minimum of 5 girls and 2 adults, maximum of 40 girls and 20 adults.


Specially Designed Programs:

Stars and Stories

Intended audience: GS Brownies
In the Planetarium theater, Jean Creighton will dazzle your GS Brownies with a guided tour of the night sky and talk about using the stars to find your way in the night. Be inspired by constellation myths, and make and display your own constellations in the theater.

This presentation may be used as part of the Leadership Journey "It's Your Story" or as one of the choices for the Hiker Badge.

Ahh-mazing Night Sky

Intended audience: GS Junior
Be amazed by the stars in our planetarium theater and marvel at the splendor of the northern lights. Learn some basic constellations and how to find your way using them. Find out about light pollution and how you can protect beautiful night skies. Be inspired by astronomer Jean Creighton's story; she came a long way to reach for the stars!

This program contributes to the Journey "It's Your Planet."

Night Owls

Intended audience: Cadettes, Seniors, Ambassadors
Look at the beautiful starry sky at our planetarium theater and learn to identify at least ten constellations and 8 bright stars. Find out how to protect the night sky from light pollution. Learn about our current space missions. Ask Jean Creighton your questions about space and about her career path to become an astronomer.

This program contributes to the Night Owl and the Sky badges.

How to Register

Contact Jean Creighton at 414-229-4961 or stargaze@uwm.edu to register your troop for a particular date (or to request a different date). 10 business days before the program, send a check for the full amount payable to UWM with a note containing your name, the date and program you booked, your troop number, city/state/zip code, phone number(s) you can be reached at on the day of your visit, email address, and the number of girls and adults.

No refunds for cancellations after deadline (ten business days before the program).

When your check arrives at the Planetarium office, you will be notified by email or phone.
