Art in Space 2014
The Art in Space event was a wonderful evening filled with great works of art, all made by local artists. The art was curated by Julie Lebo, a graduate student in Art History at UWM, and included Star Wars themed prints fashioned into nameplates each representing different Milwaukee Neighborhoods, celestial views of comets streaking over the Earth, and paintings of space images that appeared so real it was almost like looking at a picture from the Hubble Space Telescope. In addition to the artwork, guests could bid on gift certificates from these generous donors: The Milwaukee Art Museum, The Milwaukee Jewish Museum, Landmark Theaters, Pizza Shuttle, Re-Threads, and Skylight Music Theatre. After the bidding was done, a show commenced in the Planetarium which was as fun as it was informing, displaying beautiful pictures Dr. Creighton had taken during her recent trip aboard NASA’s SOFIA (Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy), along with images of brilliant nebulas and galaxies. It was a great evening for Art in Space. The proceeds were shared by the UWM Planetarium along with the artists involved.
