May The 4th Be With You
The UWM Manfred Olson Planetarium held a special Star Wars-inspired event called "May the Fourth Be With You" on May 4, 2011. These two special shows had over 100 attendees. A shorter program was offered in the afternoon to accommodate class and work schedules. Solar observing was held outside the planetarium. The evening program was longer and included more time for exploring the Milwaukee and country night sky in the planetarium. The evening show was a full house!
Darth Vader greeted audience members as music from John Williams played in the background. Jean Creighton, director of the Manfred Olson Planetarium, engaged the audiences in an educational and amusing show. The show explored how the live-able worlds from Star Wars are related to today's extra solar planets. Attendees were taken on a journey through the world of Star Wars and through similar places in our solar system. Star Wars and astronomy enthusiasts eagerly shared questions and answered Creighton's questions.
