The Lives of Stars
Friday Night Show
January 27-March 9, 2012
"The Lives of Stars", presented by the UW-Milwaukee Manfred Olson Planetarium, will highlight the fascinating life cycle of a star.
Although stars seem like permanent fixtures in our night sky, each star has a unique and finite lifetime. For decades astronomers have studied how different types of stars evolve through birth, adulthood, old age, and ultimately death. "The Lives of Stars" will track this progression and note some exciting changes stars endure when a star runs low on hydrogen fuel and can turn into an exotic object such as a black hole. After stellar evolution is explored, a portion of the program (20 minutes) will be devoted to viewing the current night sky.
