OrionSpecial Event – Winter Solstice

Monday, December 21, 2009

Show Time: 6:30 to 7:30 pm

We are happy to report on the wild success of our special Winter Solstice show offered on December 21, 2009. This show focused on the significance of the winter solstice, which occurred on the same day as the show, and its relation to the seasons. Audience members viewed several beautiful winter constellations in the night sky projected on the dome of the planetarium theater as they learned about the myths associated with them.

A popular winter constellation, Orion, was just one of the constellations viewed by visitors to the Winter Solstice show.

We originally intended to offer one show from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. When this show sold out half an hour before it started we decided we had better hold a second show from 7:40 - 8:40 p.m., which itself was very close to being sold out. In total about 120 visitors attended the two Winter Solstice shows, helping us achieve our goal of reaching 10,000 planetarium visitors for 2009!
