General Plan:

Replace the Central Plant lakeshore pumping station cistern bilge pump.

Cold water from 3/4 of a mile out in lake Michigan
is pumped with the help of the pump house under
the city and is used on campus at the heat plant to
cool the treated city water. This is done by running
the treated city water on one side of a
compartment and the cold lake water on the other
side, the two types of water never comes in
contact with each other, but the heat is
exchanged. The chilled water is then used to air
condition the buildings.

This is a remarkably efficient system that eliminates
the need for large unsightly cooling towers, which
saves space and money for the campus.
