FAQ’s
Does UWM recycle?
-Yes, UWM has a long history of recycling. Paper and co-mingle (glass, plastic, cans) have been recycled here on campus since the early 1990’s. Other materials are also recycled on campus. See Recycling
I don’t know what to do with…(insert item here)?
-Recycling markets are always fluctuating, and that is what drives what we can recycle here at UWM. Also, the resale market is having an effect on how we handle State merchandise. See:

How can we tap into all of the wind tunnels on campus for energy?
-There are definitely areas on campus that produce a lot of wind. Adding small wind turbines to the tops of buildings is not always efficient enough to have any payback. But Engineering students were giving it a review, and considering new design ideas. Also, wind is a consideration for UWM locations that are not part of the Kenwood campus.
What does an Environmental Sustainability Coordinator do?
-There are no typical days for a Sustainability Coordinator. The position at UWM is under Physical Plant Services. The role is to implement sustainable planning and policies for the UW-Milwaukee campus. This stretches across energy efficiency, finding sustainable building materials, increasing our recycling rates on campus, and informing the campus community about best practices to lessen our impact on the environment. One day it’s racing floor scrubbers against each other down the hall, or drafting a sustainability plan, and other days it is accepting invites to speak to a class about sustainability. Every campus across the nation is different, and every coordinator has different challenges.
