UWM WiFi Service Options

Information contained on this website may not be current. Please visit the UWM WiFi website at UWMWiFi.uwm.edu. Thank you.

UWM WiFi authenticated access – This is the preferred access option for faculty, staff and students because of the security provided. Click on UWMWiFi to obtain encrypted secure wireless access using an ePantherID and password. Access requires set up of your device; see Set-up Instructions Web page. After initial login, there is automatic access to wireless service without re-authenticating in the Union and Library. Individuals with a Mac computer will be required to log in again if they have “locked” their computer. This is a Mac OS known issue with the wireless technology in use.

Sponsored Guest - This option should be used for visitors who require secure high speed wireless Web access.  Guests must be sponsored by UWM faculty or staff who will assume responsibility for use of the UWM WiFi service. Sponsored guest access provides a secure wireless connection. Guests are given a user name and password for use to access UWM WiFi only. To request sponsored guest access, contact the UWM Help Desk at 414-229-4040 or use the GetTechHelp.uwm.edu online request form. When requesting sponsored guest access, include:  requested access date(s), guest name and affiliation/institution/organization, sponsor name and contact information, and purpose for visit. Access does not require device set-up.

Public- Public access is unsecured one-hour (renewable) limited bandwidth Web access. It does not require an ePantherID and password or device set-up.  The public access option is not recommended for faculty/staff University business use as the connection is unencrypted and not secure.

eduroam – eduroam is a secure worldwide federated network of institutions providing access to their local wireless service to visitors from participating eduroam institutions. Currently there are over 3,500 participating institutions worldwide. UWM faculty, staff and students can use their ePantherID and password at any of these locations, including UW-Stevens Point, UW-Green Bay and UW-Parkside. Use of eduroam access requires device set-up; see Set-up Instructions Web page. Once a device has been configured for eduroam, no further configuration is needed to access wireless service at eduroam institutions worldwide. More information at eduroam.org.
