Project Overview


The purpose of the WordPress Implementation project is to implement the recommendations of the campus Web Content Management Working Group.

Implementing the recommendations involves a making number of changes to Web content management services at UWM, with a focus on enhancing visitor experience and Web content management-related learnability, efficiency, distributed management capabilities, community awareness and involvement.

The changes include but are not limited to implementing the WordPress open source CMS, publishing platform and blogging tool as a campus Web content management system as an alternative to UW-Milwaukee's current CommonSpot web content management services (please note: WordPress is not replacing CommonSpot).


  • Communication of project and service status to campus stakeholders
  • Creation of UWM Web Content Management Advisory Group
  • Definition and documentation of service policies and guidelines
  • Implementation of UWM Web Identity theme for use with WordPress
  • Identification and cataloging of plugins to meet campus functionality requirements
  • Creation of plugin request and review process
  • Formation of learning & professional development services
  • Design, procurement and implementation of WordPress hosting environment
  • Creation of service management and support structure
  • Deployment of WordPress as a campus Web content management service
