Denis Sargent creates order within complex arrangements of images. He appropriates images from the barrage of media sources generated by our visually saturated culture, using them to develop rubbings with pigmented wax on unstretched cotton fabric. He earned a B.A. degree from the University of California at Santa Cruz in painting, drawing and printmaking in 1980 and an M.F.A. degree in painting from the University of Iowa in 1986. He taught drawing and printmaking for one year at the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette. Sargent is now professor of art in painting and drawing at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He has shown his work nationally and internationally. Exhibitions of his work include:
