Winterdances Dance Day

In addition to visiting approximately six Milwaukee and Illinois high schools for outreach showings and master classes each year, UWM Dance invites middle and high school teachers to bring their students to campus for a matinee performance followed by a talkback with the choreographers and performers. Master classes are available following the performance as well. For those schools that are interested in even more information, campus and departmental tours and talks (with a break for lunch in the student union) are available.

Next Dance Day is: Friday, February 3, 2012. The Winterdances: Fate/Love & Loss abbreviated matinee is at 11am and master classes in dance techniques and improvisation will run from 1-4:30, possibly followed by a showing of high school student works (full schedule available upon request).

New Dancemakers Workshop Day

Knowing that alumni from our department teach at many local dance studios in Wisconsin and Illinois, UWM Dance would like to invite local studio directors to bring their students to campus for a Saturday workshop day with current students, followed by a New Dancemakers performance, on Saturday, December 10, 2011. The day’s schedule consists of:

• 1-2pm Modern Technique Class
• 2:15-3:15pm African-Caribbean Technique Class
• 3:30-4:30pm Composition Workshop with assistance from the New Dancemakers choreographers
• dinner break
• New Dancemakers Program A at 6pm and Program B at 8pm

Community Participation-Dance Technique Classes

Milwaukee dance community members and UWM Dance alumni are permitted to participate in dance technique classes when space is available. In order to attend, please purchase a voucher (for insurance/liability purposes) and talk to the instructor of the class ahead of time. Some days may not be open to community members, so you must talk to the instructor for each day you’d like to participate. Class schedule can be found at schedule.uwm.edu. Local professionals pay $11, and alumni and current dance majors pay $6 per class voucher. Please mention your Alumni status at the PSOA Box Office prior to purchasing your voucher. The Box Office is located off the parking lot of the Zelazo Center, 2419 E. Kenwood Blvd.
