Choreographer Emma Draves presents this concert informed by contemporary and bharatanatyam movement vocabulary, Hindu mythology and literature. Through the metaphor of space, the audience is both presented with and integrated into these works which challenge how we view and experience identity.

In Juliana F. May's MFA thesis concert, May presents two works that demonstrate the scope of the artists work over the past 3 year. Gutter Gate (DTW 2011) blends, and dilutes sections to deconstruct notions of craft and composition while Commentary=Not thing (premiere) reveals a starker, more desperate emotional palette as there is an almost grotesqueness in the way the performers are communicating with sound, touch and repetition. This new work will push these three elements further by creating more orchestrated and detailed sound scores where the performers are literally speaking and singing into each other’s body parts. This literal merging of mouth, sound and body inundates the work with a more sensuous relationship to text and song, raises the performative stakes and ultimately scaffolds more structural risk.
