BRUECHENHEIN

Curated by Lisa Stone, the Eugene Von Bruenchenhein exhibit at Inova will feature paintings and concrete sculptures on loan from Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art in Chicago as well as a number of private lenders from the Midwest and east coast.

Born in Marinette, WI, Von Bruenchenhein lived and worked in Milwaukee in a small house near State Fair Park. Upon his death in 1983, a trove of artwork in many mediums was discovered and, with the help of the John Michael Kohler Art Center, was cleaned, conserved and documented. Eugene Von Bruenchenhein’s work is now in prominent collections throughout the world and was recently featured in an exhibit titled Eugene Von Bruenchenhein: “Freelance Artist—Poet and Sculptor—Inovator—Arrow maker and Plant man—Bone artifacts constructor—Photographer and Architect—Philosopher” at the American Folk Art Museum in New York City (which elicited a major review in the New York Times).
