The UWM Voice Area is currently home to approximately seventy voice students, who study in one or more of six degree tracks including the BFA in Vocal Performance, Music Education, Inter-Arts: Musical Theatre, as well as the BA and the MM in Vocal Performance or Music Education. Performance opportunities include opera productions, opera workshop performances, musicals, recitals, and concerts with one of the five choral ensembles at UWM. The professional musical organizations of the greater Milwaukee area also offer performances opportunities and several UWM voice students gain valuable performance experience while studying in the cultural center of the state of Wisconsin.
Voice is lead by a superior faculty of experienced professional singers and pianists who have performed widely throughout the United States and Europe. The combined faculty has expertise in Opera, Recital, Oratorio and Orchestral Solo Performances, Musical Theatre and Early Music. Each professor is highly respected within both the musical community and musical professional organizations. Several of the voice faculty have published in music journals and all are multi-lingual. The charge of the Voice Area is to teach skills for future success in music, to offer solid vocal technique and knowledge of vocal health. This training is built upon a foundation of history, theory, and a varied repertoire of vocal music. A spirit of genuine collaboration both within and outside of the voice area offers experiences in many musical styles, fostering future performers, pedagogues and leaders in the arts.
